SEA MULLET GIVE PIER ANGLERS FAIR ACTION

Gusty winds and dirty water provided fair sea mullet fishing for pier anglers along the northern beaches Thursday.

Fishermen on Kitty Hawk Pier caught scattered sea mullet. Avalon Pier reported small blues and gray trout landed during the morning, and sea mullet in the afternoon.

At Nags Head Pier, anglers landed a few speckled trout, blues and bottom fish. Sea mullet fishing was good in the late afternoon at Jennette's Pier.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught croakers, sea mullet and spot sporadically throughout the day.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported a few bottom fish and tailor blues landed. Only a handful of sea mullet and pigfish were taken on Avon Pier.

At Frisco Pier, anglers caught lots of small croakers in the rough, dirty water.

Surf fishing on the Outer Banks was generally slow Thursday from Corolla to Hatteras Island.

Anglers caught a few mullet, small gray trout and an occasional bluefish at Cape Point. Fifteen drum were landed Wednesday night. During the day Thursday, anglers caught a few puppy drum and small blues.

Only a few boats went offshore from Oregon Inlet Thursday because of strong winds. Fishing was slow, with only a few tuna and gaffer dolphin taken.

Bottom fishing should continue to be the best bet as long as the water remains dirty.

The water temperature at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier was 55.5 degrees Thursday. by CNB
