Florence Green Elam, 79, of the 20200 block of Silo Lane, died May 10, 1995, in Chesapeake Health Care Center.
A native of Elizabeth City, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Victoria Green and wife of the late Willie Thomas Elam. She retired from Smithfield Packing Co. and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Zuni, the Deaconess Board, Senior Choir, Missionary Circle, Sunday School, Community Prayer Band and Sick Committee.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Haskins of Suffolk, Mrs. Catherine Butler of Ivor and Evangelist Florence E. Brown of Chester, Pa.; four sons, the Rev. James Elam and Matthew Elam, both of Zuni, the Rev. Wesley Elam of Durham, N.C. and Frank Elam of Suffolk; foster daughters, Frances Bailey and Lillian Bailey, both of Surry, Va.; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Shiloh Baptist Church, Zuni, by the Rev. James Elam Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church by 11 a.m. Monday. Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, is in charge.
