James D. ``Moe'' Mobley Jr., of the 1400 block of Ponderosa Arch, a retired jazz musician, died May 11, 1995, in Hampton.
Mr. Mobley, a Baptist, was born in Cape May Point, N.J., and was the widower of Velma Mobley. He played with Count Basie at the Apollo Theatre in New York, was a member of the Club Harlem Band in Atlantic City and the Miss America Pageant Band, and was a member of the Atlantic City Musicians Association.
Mr. Mobley served as a technical sergeant during World War II, was a member of the General Patton Red Ball Express in World War II, conductor of 427th Headquarters Command Band and was a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include three brothers, Louis Mobley of Atlantic City, N.J., Mantell Mobley and Nelson T. Mobley, both of Philadelphia; a devoted niece, Gertrude Riggens; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Julian Hawkins Funeral Home, Philadelphia. Burial will be in Roland Green Memorial Park. Viewing will be at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Norfolk, today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
