A 30-year-old Chesapeake man was convicted Friday of second-degree murder and a firearms charge for shooting a man in the throat at point-blank range.
Grant Bandy, of the 2100 block of Wingfield Avenue, originally was charged with first-degree murder after he used his .20-gauge shotgun to kill Christopher Hardy on May 15, 1994, in a Crestwood neighborhood.
Bandy, who had been drinking at the time of the shooting, told police that he and the victim were having a dispute and the victim threatened him.
However, a Circuit Court jury found Bandy guilty and recommended 35 years in prison for the shooting and a mandatory three-year sentence for the firearms charge.
