Bennie Winborne, 71, of the 600 block of Marcus St., a retired truck driver, died May 11, 1995, in his residence.
Mr. Winborne was born in Gatesville, N.C. He retired from Naval Rework, N.O.B. after 35 years; was a member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church; the Deacon Board; was a Sunday School teacher and leader of the Noon Day Prayer Group. He was former president of Crestwood Manor Civic League, president of the Retired Truck Driver Association, member of Meals on Wheels and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Robena Winborne; two daughters, Bennette W. Toliver and Gloria Winborne, both of Chesapeake; three sisters, Nana L. Townes of Chesapeake, Dorcas Williams of Virginia Beach and Theresa Anaker of Boston, Mass.; two grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and one son-in-law, Rev. Michael R. Toliver. He was the son of the late Ovene H. Winborne and Benjamin Winborne.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 2899 Welcome Road, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Donald Taylor. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Arrangements by Hale Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Family will assemble at his residence.
