To play three sports in college is tough enough. But Averett's Amy Cross has proven that she can do that and more.
Along with running cross country, which she did for the first time, playing basketball and tennis, Cross has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average.
Cross, a rising junior, sees sports as a way of helping her academics.
``Since I am always busy with sports, I know what I have to do. If I am in a bad mood after a game I still have to study. I think I have learned how to be responsible,'' said Cross, a Churchland High School graduate.
Cross was selected by her coach as the cross country team's most valuable runner. She also served as captain.
``I am glad that I ran; it helped me get in shape for basketball,'' said Cross, who doesn't plan to run cross country again.
``I got tendinitis in my ankles during basketball season and running cross country was part of the reason,'' she explained.
Cross averaged nine points and six rebounds per game for the basketball team last season.
In tennis, Cross has been named to the All-Dixie Conference team.
