The radical right is still attempting to make Sen. John Warner the scapegoat for the defeat of Oliver North last November. They (Pat Robertson, Ralph Reed, Michael Farris and Patrick McSweeny) want to blame Senator Warner because he had the political courage and integrity to oppose a man unfit to represent the commonwealth as our senator.
Senator Warner has demonstrated the same integrity as Sen. Harry Byrd, who left the Democratic Party rather than sign a loyalty oath.
I have worked for Republican candidates since Barry Goldwater, but I didn't in 1994. Never had I voted for a straight Democratic ticket in a state election until 1994. Why? Because of the reactionary move to the extreme right by those in control of the Virginia Republican Party, and their dogmatic attitude.
I will work more diligently than ever to see that an outstanding man of integrity and character is returned to the Senate to represent the citizens of Virginia. I urge all citizens to look for those political leaders who propose solutions.
Look to those who try to unite rather than divide. Choose candidates who have demonstrated leadership, courage and wisdom. Re-elect Virginia's senior senator, John Warner, a Virginian of the old school who displays dignity and refinement and who understands the political process and uses it to the enhancement of all Virginians and Americans.
