CAREER TRACK

ARCHITECTURAL

Landon G. Carpenter was named assistant vice president with Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern Inc. in Virginia Beach.

Carpenter, an architect and office manager for the architectural firm's Tidewater area, most recently was a senior associate.

BANKING

Signet Bank named Dr. Joseph Boyd, Richard T. Cheng and William G. Kamarek to its board of directors in Norfolk.

Boyd is dean of the School of Business at Norfolk State University, Cheng is chairman and chief executive officer with Eastern Computers Inc. in Virginia Beach, and Kamarek is president and chief executive officer with Electronic Systems of Virginia Beach.

John Anderson was appointed a vice president and relationship manager with First Union National Bank of Virginia in Norfolk. He will market credit, investment and capital markets products to companies with annual sales of $20 million or more in the Hampton Roads area.

Anderson previously managed customer accounts with Signet Bank in Richmond. He holds a master's degree in business administration.

ENGINEERING

Stroud, Pence & Associates Ltd. in Virginia Beach named John H. Hancock and David W. Mykins principals of its engineering firm this year. Hancock has been with the firm since 1984, and Mykins since 1986.

MEDIA

International Family Entertainment Inc. in Virginia Beach promoted Wendy Vinson from manager to director of ad sales development, and Judi Roberson from the executive assistant to the senior vice president of advertising sales to marketing manager of ad sales development.

Also, Linda DeBlois was promoted from sports marketing manager to director of national promotions, and Kelly Lambert from media planning assistant to media manager.

And, Jose Barcita was named director of creative services. Barcita was president and creative director of Barcita & Barcita Inc.

The director of on-air promotions, Lim Peacock was promoted to executive director of creative services.

Also, Charles Elks was promoted from supervisor to manager of computer support and operations.

IFE named Gus Lucas senior vice president of programming. Lucas was previously executive vice president of Viacom Entertainment Group and president of West Coast Operations and Viacom Productions. He will be based in Los Angeles.

INDUSTRY

Goodwill Industries of Hampton Roads Inc. appointed Jean Esguerra director of human resources and Lori Shelton director of marketing.

Esguerra was a work adjustment coordinator with Goodwill's Peninsula division. And, Shelton was a job placement specialist with the federally funded grant program IAM CARES in Norfolk.

MUSEUM

April Carter O'Brien was appointed advertising and promotions manager for the Nauticus in Norfolk. O'Brien previously was promotion director with Virginia Beach Events Unlimited Inc.

RETAIL

Guy R. Sykes was named president and chief executive officer with Camellia Foods Inc.

Sykes has been with Camellia since 1993, and most recently was vice president and chief operating officer. He will remain COO.

His 30 years in the retail grocery business includes Victory Markets and Chicago Markets in New York. And, prior to joining Camellia, he served as senior vice president for retail operations and marketing with Peter J. Schmitt Co. in New York.

He succeeds Walter Grant who retired this month after a 21-year career with Camellia.

MID-ATLANTIC

Kline Automotive Organization, the automotive retailing operation based in Washington, named Dennis Ellmer and Stacy Cummings Jr. partners. Ellmer is president and chief operating officer, and Cummings is executive vice president and chief financial officer.

ORGANIZATIONS

The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel elected E. Diane Thompson a fellow. Thompson is a principal in the law firm of Hofheimer, Nusbaum, McPhaul & Samuels in Norfolk.

The Association of Legal Administrators, Hampton Roads chapter, elected Pamela C. Klavenski president. Klavenski is an administrator with Anderson & Winslow in Virginia Beach.
