The following women have been selected as the 1995 Women of the Year by the awards committee for the Outstanding Professional Women of Hampton Roads:
Woman of the Year: Rachel C. Hopkins, director of the lower school at the Norfolk Academy.
Pioneer Award: Jeanette Haas, with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, for her work with Habitat For Humanity and The House That Jill Built.
Community Service Award: Maryellen Baldwin, of Lynnhaven Dive Commercial in Virginia Beach.
Special Public Service Award: Joan Mallen, of M&M Tax Service, for service to the Philippine-American community in the Hampton Roads area.
The following women were named Outstanding Professional Women in the area:
Betty C. Bradshaw with Crestar Bank; Christina Bublick with Career Web on the Internet; Dr. Claire Carman, a local surgeon; J. Kimberly Goold with Huff, Poole & Mahoney; Doris Gray with AT&T Global Business Communications Systems; Pamela Hoffler-Riddick with William H. Ruffner Middle School; Pamela Dee Ryman with Navy; Linda J. Smith with Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce; and Marinel Wright of Tiffany's Bridal and Formal Wear.
Joseph A. Dorto received the distinguished service award from the Hampton Roads Maritime Association for his leadership in the Hampton Roads port activity. Dorto is general manager and chief executive officer of Virginia International Terminals.

Advex Corp. in Hampton received a $718,478 contract from the Langley Research Center in Hampton for modifications of the nozzle test chamber building 1247D.
Wright Associates Inc. in Newport News received a $580,000 contract from the Langley Reseach Center in Hampton for heating and air conditioning electrical repairs in the cafeteria building 1213.
American Sheet Metal Corp. in Norfolk received a $872,224 contract from the Virginia Beach Public Schools for masonry restoration and roof repairs to Great Neck Middle School.
J.R. Wills & Sons Inc. in Suffolk received a $804,482 contract from the city of Franklin for a Texie Camp Marks Children's Center.
Virtexco Corp. in Norfolk received a $1.7 million contract from the Navy for a new golf pro shop an clubhouse at NAB Little Creek. by CNB
