Franklin Ray Shield Jr., 82, of The Greens, died May 13, 1995, in his residence.
He was a native of Onancock, Va., and was the son of the late Franklin Ray Shield Sr. and Margaret West Shield. He was the founder of Shield Realty in Virginia Beach and was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Onancock. He was a Coast Guard Veteran of World War II, a retired Lt. Cmdr. of the United States Coast Guard Reserve, and was a member of the Survivors Association of the USCG Cutter, Alexander Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife, Winifred Rew Shield; three sons, Franklin Ray Shield III, William Rodney Shield, both of Virginia Beach, and Jeffrey Rew Shield of Melfa; two sisters, Sarah Ann Steele of Onancock and Margaret Douglas Muhle of Melfa; and seven grandsons.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Onancock, by the Rev. Andrew Zeman. Family and friends may call at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home today after 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, c/o William Custis, P.O.
