BLUE AND WHITE MARLIN MAKE FIN FANTASY A REALITY

The Fin Fantasy won the inaugural Hatteras Village Invitational billfish tournament out of Hatteras, N.C., by releasing a blue marlin and a white marlin and scoring 600 points.

The blue was caught by Dennis Proffett of Chesterfield, Va., and the white by Quyen Chi Luu of Richmond.

Second place went to the Gambler, which also released a blue and a white and scored 600 points. Time of catch was used as the tiebreaker. The blue was released by John Hoggard of Chesapeake; the name of the angler who caught the white was unavailable.

Third place went to the Bullfrog with 400 points for a blue marlin released by Sylvia Temple of Bailey, N.C.

The largest wahoo weighed 59 pounds and was caught by Rodney Hoover of Franklin, W.Va., aboard the Hatteras Fever. Temple had the largest dolphin at 40-0, while the biggest tuna was an 83-pound yellowfin caught by Ron Lowe of Rocky Mount, N.C., on the Outlaw.

Elsewhere, Danny Fodden of Richmond took the wahoo lead in the annual North Carolina Salt Water Fishing Tournament with a 101-pounder, caught from the Bounty Hunter out of Oregon Inlet.

Largemouth bass and shellcracker continued to provide excellent action on the lakes around Norfolk and Suffolk, with bass also making a good showing on West Neck Creek in Virginia Beach.

The team of Dave Perdue and Mike Rosenthal of Chesapeake won a largemouth bass tournament Sunday out of Bob's Fishing Hole on the Northwest River with a combined catch weighing 14-12. Second went to Joe Spruill and Lloyd Sanderlin of Chesapeake at 12-8. Rosenthal had the lunker at 5-8. by CNB
