LIDDY'S SHOOT ADVICE IN CONTEXT

In staff writer Alex Marshall's ``Right-wing catalysts?'' (Commentary, May 7) , G. Gordon Liddy is quoted as having described how to kill government agents. Allow me to put what he said in context, which is more than we can apparently expect from your newspaper, given its liberal bias.

When asked by a caller what to do if illegally attacked by government agents, a la Waco, Ruby Ridge and Pennsylvania, Mr. Liddy suggested to the caller that he shoot the agents in the head since they wear body armor. Now, I ask you, if government agents were illegally attacking you, bent on killing you, what would you do? Call a federal agent?

You should read Funky Winkerbean in your Sunday comics of May 7. You and many of the other liberals in this country resemble more and more the ``they'' about whom Pastor Niemoller was referring. The difference being ``they'' are now coming for freedom of speech.

By the way, according to The Washington Times, accused bomber Timothy McVeigh championed national health care and redistribution of more wealth to the middle class, views shared by your paper - hardly the rantings of a right-winger in league somehow with G. Gordon Liddy, Ollie North and Rush Limbaugh.

Had you been around in the late 18th century, you probably would have been after the scalps of Thomas Paine, Patrick Henry, Tom Jefferson and other ``lunatics'' of the day.
