International Family Entertainment Inc. of Virginia Beach said a profit increase at The Family Channel and narrowing losses at the channel's British version helped push earnings up 19 percent in the first quarter to $3.1 million, or 8 cents a share. Revenues rose 17 percent to $62.5 million in the most recent period. IFE also said it will take a special charge against its second-quarter earnings to cover severance agreements.
