VA. SYMPHONY POPS TO CAP OLDEN DAYS

The Virginia Symphony Pops will be back again this year at Windsor Castle during the Olden Days Festival weekend.

The concert, which begins at 6 p.m. May 28, traditionally ends the annual weekend celebration of the town's heritage.

The symphony will perform on the grounds of Windsor Castle, the 18th century Smithfield plantation on the shores of Cypress Creek, the home of Charlie and Helen Betts.

The ``orchestra pit'' will be the base of a gently curved, grassy hill that forms a natural amphitheater, with the creek flowing past in the background.

Those attending the concert should bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. Parking is ample, but it is a good idea to arrive early.

Tickets bought in advance are $8 for adults, $10 at the door. Children up to 18 and full-time college students will be admitted for $2. All proceeds go to the Virginia Symphony.

There will be a concession stand selling wine, beer, soft drinks, cheese, crackers, fruit and other light refreshments.

You can purchase tickets from members of the Smithfield Rotary Club, and at Smithfield Station, local banks, Wharf Hill Antiques and the offices of Barlow and Riddick on Main Street.

You also can order tickets by mail by calling 357-7312 or 357-4314 during normal business hours, 357-7131 at night. Tickets also can be ordered by fax at 357-9358. by CNB
