Rev. Curtis Bethea of the 3200 block of Vimy Ridge Ave., a retired self-employed contractor, died May 13, 1995, in his residence.
A native of Edgecombe County, N.C., he ran a carpentry business in Goldsboro, N.C. He was the widower of Ruby M. Bethea Lewis. He was a member of Cherry Hill Chapel Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, N.C., and was associate minister at New Mount Olivett Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
Survivors include three daughters, Mildred Lloyd, Nellie Paige and Lavern Hudson; two sons, Douglas Bethea and Bobby Bethea; a brother, Dan Bethea; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a devoted daughter-in-law, Joycelyn Skinner-Bethea.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in New Mount Olivett Baptist Church, 1000 County St., Portsmouth, by the Rev. Milton R. Blount. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Riddick Funeral Service.
