Regarding your report describing the Virginia Beach City Council's consternation with the outdoor theater at Little Creek Amphibious Base (news, May 6):
As a former citizen of Virginia Beach for 22 years, who, incidentally, continues to own property in that city, I remember the years of cooperative efforts between the city and the military services. Recently, the chance of base closures brought forth a tremendous outcry from the City Council informing all people within hearing range concerning the importance of military bases to the city of Virginia Beach.
The Navy, and in particular the Amphibious Base, has conducted concerts for years prior to Virginia Beach's decision to build and program events for an amphitheater. Now, because the city intends to initiate a business deal with Cellar Door Productions, a council protest is being raised. Which organization is more important in the general scheme of things, the military or Cellar Door Productions?
In explanation to the main complainant, Councilman W. W. Harrison Jr.: Cooperation is not spelled g-r-e-e-d. We can only trust that the experienced council members will clarify priorities for Mr. Harrison.
