Elaine S. Smith, 68, of the 2600 block of Cedar Road, a retired teacher, died May 16, 1995, in Sentara Skilled Care Center, Norfolk.
Mrs. Smith was born in Southampton County, Va., and was retired from G.W. Carver Middle School in the Chesapeake public schools after 41 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Courtland, and a member of the local, state and national education associations.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur L. Smith; a sister, Leona S. Brewer of Courtland; a brother, Floyd Smith Sr. of Chesapeake; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; nine nieces; seven nephews; cousins, in-laws and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Helping Hand Cemetery, Courtland, by the Rev. C.R. Barnes. Viewing will begin at noon Friday in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth. The family will assemble at the residence at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
