The Children's Museum of Virginia was visited by more than 100,000 people during its first six months in the former Leggett building on High Street.
The six months' total surpasses the 65,000 visitors to the Children's Museum in the year preceding the opening of the new museum.
``The response to the museum has been phenomenal,'' curator Tony Earls said. ``Kids love it. Parents love it. It is tremendous to see so much fun and learning taking place.''
The museum's first-floor phase contains more than 60 interactive exhibits. The second, scheduled for completion within the next two years, will house the A.J. Lancaster Collection of Trains and Toys as well as additional hands-on exhibits.
Stories about the museum have appeared recently in USA Today, Newsweek and The Washington Post.
The museum is located at 221 High St. It is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. every day of the week with extended hours of 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday. Beginning Memorial Day and continuing through Labor Day, the museum will be open 9 a.m.-9p.m. every day. by CNB
