The Dare County Tourism Board has approved 10 grants totaling $22,650 for the April 1-30 application period of the Dare County Tourism Assistance Grant Program.
The program provides assistance to Dare County organizations for projects and events to attract visitors to Dare County and the Outer Banks.
Grants were awarded to the following organizations: Nags Head Surf Fishing Club for the annual Youth Fishing Tournament, $500; Wanchese Seafood Festival Committee for the Wanchese Seafood Festival, $2,000; Dare Voluntary Action Center for the Outer Banks Triathlon, $1,500; Elizabeth R for the promotion of Elizabeth R, $3,000; Icarus Art Committee for the third annual Icarus Arts Show, $2,000; Roanoke Island Business Association for development of a ``Destination Roanoke Island'' brochure, $3,750; Dare County Girls Softball Babe Ruth League for the Southeast Regional Babe Ruth Softball Tournament, $2,500; Pirate's Cove Big Game Tournament for the ``Allison'' Crippled Children's White Marlin Release Tournament, $2,000; Pirate's Cove Big Game Tournaments for the Outer Banks King Mackerel Festival, $3,400; and Tar Heel Trading Company for the Tar Heel Craftsman's Fair, $2,000.
The applications were judged on the basis of a project's potential to attract visitors to Dare County, its originality and need for special assistance and prospects for future development.
The next application period will be Oct. 1-31, for projects which will take place between Dec. 1 and June 1. Applications and forms may be obtained from the Dare County Tourist Bureau office in Manteo, or by calling the office at 473-2138. by CNB
