April loadings at the three coal terminals in the port of Hampton Roads rose to 4.5 million tons from 3.6 million tons a year earlier, according to the Hampton Roads Maritime Association. Two of the region's three terminals had dramatic increases in tonnage loaded into coal colliers. Only Norfolk Southern Corp.'s Lamberts Point terminal, the region's largest terminal, shipped less coal in April than it did last year. Both terminals in Newport News grew by more than 50 percent. So far this year, coal shipments in the port are up nearly 15 percent to 16.5 million tons. by CNB
