I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the headline (May 11) about Norfolk threatening to throw a monkey wrench in the Lake Gaston pipeline because of subsequent loss of revenue and being limited as to what cities they would be allowed to sell water to.
Hasn't the main purpose of all these political handstands and showdowns regarding water been to subsequently furnish the residents with the lifeline we all need - WATER? Will it take thousands of people getting deathly ill because we can't afford or do not have enough water to wash our dishes and clothes? Sounds like a scenario from a Third World nation, doesn't it?
Local and state legislators should wake up. We are sick to death with all this empty rhetoric.
All the money in the cities coffers aren't going to keep people alive without water. Legislators should remember us residents, the ones who put them in office and can jolly well take them out.
