YES, THE PLOTS on ``Melrose Place'' are outrageous. Amanda contracts a deadly disease but recovers without smudging her mascara. Alison lands a great job in Hong Kong after losing control of D&D Advertising. Kimberly obeys the demon she sees in the mirror.
Ever said to yourself, ``I can write a better plot twist than that?'' It's obvious that dozens of readers think that way, judging from the large number of entries in your humble columnist's ``You Can Write a Better Melrose Place Script'' competition.
Rumor has it that the ``Melrose Place'' finale on Fox on Monday night at 8 will end with a bang - an explosion at the apartment complex, arranged by the vengeful Kimberly.
Karina Josh of Virginia Beach has a better idea.
``The big earthquake that everyone is expecting to hit Southern California finally does strike, totally devastating the Melrose Place apartment complex. Most of California is wiped out except for the retreat in the desert where Traci Lords and her colleagues in a cult once held Sydney a prisoner.
``The cast members who survive the earthquake move to the desert, join cult leader Martin and start new storylines. Imagine the possibilities.''
Brigitta Chia in Chesapeake has a sensational suggestion to cap off the season on ``Melrose Place.''
It involves the captain of the Starship Voyager.
``While caught in a time warp, Capt. Kathryn Janeway plummets to earth and somehow lands in the pool at the Melrose Place apartment complex. The same phenomenon transports Kimberly to the distant galaxy from where the Voyager is trying to return to Federation space.
``Billy rescues the captain from drowning, and before long, Janeway is working with him at D&D Advertising. It's just a matter of time before she takes over from Amanda, showing everyone how she runs a tight ship. At Mancini Designs, Jane replicates the uniform worn by Janeway when she re-entered Earth orbit and causes an international fashion sensation. She makes a bundle. Even Judge Ito is seen wearing the Janeway look.
``Meanwhile in outer space, Kimberly, without that wig that hides her awful scar, is mistaken by the Romulans as one of their own. They hail her as a heroic officer.''
And if that isn't outrageous enough for you, how about this ``Melrose Place'' finale from Stephanie C. McClain of Chesapeake:
``Rhonda Blair, the character played by Vanessa Williams in the first season of `Melrose Place,' returns for the last show of this season, bent on revenge. She is upset with the gang at Melrose Place for never inviting her back for a visit after she married a rich guy and moved away. She invests in some dynamite and blows away the building and all who are in it, including another actress from the first season (Amy Locane as Sandy Harting), who returned to the complex with twin sons she says were fathered by the gay Matt Fielding character.''
That's about as ridiculous as Kimberly taking orders from a demon in the mirror. by CNB
