VOLUNTEERS DESERVE THANKS GOOD EVENTS COMING

Next weekend marks the official opening of the summer season in Portsmouth. As this issue of Currents attests, it will be a busy time.

Memorial Day weekend is one of Portsmouth's most pleasant times, combining art and patriotism - both appropriate for the image the city would like to portray to the world.

Both are good, clean family events, and both are tied to the history of this city.

The 25th annual Seawall Art Show is a continuation of a tradition that started with construction of the Seawall. The Memorial Day Parade has been part of Portsmouth's history for a lot longer than a century.

Both events depend on volunteers who keep them going. That they have lasted so long speaks well for the people of this city. by CNB
