The grounds of Windsor Castle, on the banks of Cypress Creek, again will be the setting for a Virginia Symphony Pops concert at 6 p.m. May 28.
This is the eighth annual concert on the lawn sponsored by the Smithfield Rotary Club. The base of a gently curved, grassy hill forms a natural amphitheater. The creek flows in the background.
The program includes Richard Hayman's ``Armed Forces Salute'' and Morton Gould's ``American Salute''; two Boston Pops offerings, ``Pops Hoedown'' and ``Boston Pops March''; and selections from Gershwin's ``Porgy and Bess'' and Rodgers' and Hammerstein's ``Oklahoma!''
Bring a blanket, tarp or lawn chair. There is lots of parking space, but concertgoers are asked to arrive early to avoid tie-ups. Gates open at 3 p.m.
A concession stand sells wine, beer, soft drinks, cheese, crackers, fruit and other light refreshments. Or you may bring a picnic basket.
Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the gate. Tickets for children to 18 and full-time college students are $2. Proceeds go to the Virginia Symphony.
For information or reservations, call 357-7312 or 357-4314 during business hours, 357-7131 at night.
Tickets may be ordered by fax, 357-9358, or purchased from any Smithfield Rotary Club member, Smithfield Station, local banks, Wharf Hill Antiques, or the offices of Barlow & Riddick, P.C., on Main Street.
The event coincides with Smithfield's Olden Days Festival, an annual weekend celebration of the town's history. The 18th century Windsor Castle is the home of Charlie and Helen Betts. by CNB
