The Suffolk City Council took the following actions at its meeting Wednesday. The council meets the first and third Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 441 Market St.
Budget Public Hearing - Continued:
A. Consideration of operating budget appropriation ordinances for fiscal year beginning July 1, 1995 and ending June 30, 1996 - Second Reading - including:
1. Ordinance approving appropriation for fiscal year beginning July 1, 1995, and ending June 30, 1996, in the amount of $118,218,816, and regulating the payment of money out of the City Treasury.
2. Ordinance levying taxes for fiscal year beginning July 1, 1995, and ending June 30, 1996.
3. Ordinance amending and reordaining Section 29-9 - amounts generally, of Division 2 - Rates, of Chapter 29 - Water, of the Code of Laws of the City of Suffolk.
4. Ordinance amending and reordaining Section 22-8 of the Code of Laws of the City of Suffolk, relating to sewer use or rental charges.
5. Ordinance imposing a tax on admissions. No action.
Public hearing on consideration of Conditional Use Permit Request C6-95 for construction of a barn for agricultural purposes on a non-conforming agricultural use for property located adjacent to Freeman Mill Road and Whaleyville Boulevard. Approved, 7-0.
Consideration of Rezoning Request RR-21-94 to amend previously approved Master Land Use Plan for the Hillpoint Farms Planned Development Housing District located off Godwin Boulevard to shift location of the proposed golf course, shift location of a portion of the internal loop road, and reduce the overall density of the project. Tabled for continued review by the Planning Commission for 90 days. Approved, 7-0.
Ordinance accepting and appropriating grant award of $1,500 from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for a radar purchase mini-grant - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0.
Ordinance appropriating $23,375 for the purchase of equipment related to drug investigation through the City of Suffolk Police Department - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0.
Ordinance approving the City of Suffolk's efforts to receive Title III Older Americans Act Funding for Senior Citizen Service programs through SEVAMP Senior Services and appropriating funds received - Second Reading. Approved, 6-0; one abstention (Milteer).
Ordinance to repeal ordinance No. 49-87, which created sinking funds for certain capital improvements. Approved, 7-0.
Ordinance appropriating $467,128 to the School Construction fund - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0.
Ordinance accepting and appropriating grant award of $10,000 from the Department of Motor Vehicles for the Alcohol Selective Enforcement Program. First Reading.
Ordinance appropriating funds for the Holland Volunteer Fire Truck Engine. First Reading.
Resolution establishing a policy to appropriate local unexpended funds to a school construction fund. Approved, 7-0.
Resolution supporting construction of a new elementary school. Approved, 7-0.
Resolution supporting establishment of a juvenile detention facility for the Fifth Judicial District. Approved, 7-0.
Resolution authorizing the city manager to do those things necessary to establish the United States Conference of Mayors' deferred compensation program for the City of Suffolk. Approved, 7-0.
Resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation accept and include a portion of additional right of way and the abandonment of a portion of Steeple Drive, Route 1504, from the Secondary System of State Highways. Approved, 7-0.
Resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation include Fennell Lane and Fennell Court in the Glen Forest Subdivision into the State Secondary Road System. Approved, 7-0.
Motion to establish a City Council Work Session for Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at 5 p.m. unless canceled. Approved, 7-0.
Motion to establish a Budget Work Session for Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at 3 p.m. unless canceled. Approved, 7-0.
