FLORENCE V. GAY

Florence Vaughan Gay, born in 1901 in Richmond, Virginia, was the daughter of the late Henry F. and Florence L. Vaughan. She was the widow of Ryland A. Gay and the mother of the late John A. Gay. Mrs. Gay attended Old Dominion University and in 1972 at the age of 71 she received her Masters of Science Degree in Education. She had a 20-year association with the Juvenile Court in Norfolk, being one of the first ``Friends of the Juvenile Court.'' She served as a volunteer in the Domestic Relations section and a volunteer probation officer. She held a full-time, non-paid position and frequently provided personal aid to some of the needy court clients. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Norfolk.

Mrs. Gay is survived by granddaughter, Sabrina Keasling of Knoxville, Tennessee, five nephews, H. Vaughan Belcher of Ellicott City, Job O. Belcher Jr. of Virginia Beach, Franklin H. Dennis of Deltaville, Robert C. Parsons of Richmond, and Thomas E. Hutt Jr. of Fairfax.

Funeral services will be held at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, Wakefield, Virginia, on Sunday, June 4, 1995, at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Malcolm Yaple. Burial will follow in the Rocky Hock Cemetery. Arrangements by Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield.
