BACK-YARD SOCIALISM

I take exception to ``Right-wing catalysts?'' (Commentary, May 7) by staff writer Alex Marshall. How anyone could possibly blame, directly or indirectly, Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich or Rush Limbaugh for the tragedy in Oklahoma City is beyond me..

If the Republicans are to blame for the deaths of innocent people at Oklahoma City, why isn't Janet Reno in jail? The Federal goverment murdered 86 people at Waco, including 24 children, and there wasn't even an investigation. Were the children who died at Waco any less innocent than the children who died in Oklahoma City? Where was the national day of mourning for them? Where was Bill Clinton then?

The Democrats consistently accuse the Republicans of being ``mean spirited.'' I have yet to read in your paper about the ``hate'' coming from the left.

Bill Clinton protested actively against the U.S. government on the streets of London and Moscow and participated in the burning of a U.S. flag. And now he is telling us that we should place our faith and trust in the U.S. government?

I've spent almost 27 years of my life as a member of the U.S. Navy fighting against socialism around the world. It's ironic that I now find myself fighting it in my own back yard. Socialism hasn't worked anywhere. Ask the Russians. The socialist policies of the past 40-plus years of this country haven't worked either. In fact they are a dismal failure.

The people spoke last Nov. 8. The people will speak again in '96.
