A Dare County commercial fisherman has been elected vice chairman of the state Marine Fisheries Commission.
William A. Foster of Hatteras was chosen unanimously by the panel to succeed Michael Orbach, a Duke University professor who resigned from the board earlier this month.
JoAnn Burkholder, an N.C. State University professor, was nominated for the position but withdrew from consideration.
