ROBERT I. CATAN

Robert Ian Catan, 56, of the 9300 block of Capeview Ave., a mail carrier, died May 20, 1995, in a local hospital.

Mr. Catan was born in Leyte, Philippines. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Catholic. He was a president of Filipino-American Veterans of Tidewater. He was a member of Veterans Council of Hampton Roads; Filipino-American Community Action Group; Council of United Filipino organizations of Tidewater. He graduated from Norfolk State University with a bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He also retired from the Navy as a MSCS (SS) after 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Dory Catan of Norfolk; three daughters, Evangeline of Norfolk, Caroline of Virginia Beach, Catherine and her husband, Nato of Virginia Beach; two sons, Ronaldo and his wife, Bernadette, of Kentucky and Ceriaco of Norfolk; a brother, Marcelo Catan of the Philippines; and six grandchildren, Allen, Byron, Celeste, Brian, Brandon and Joshua.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Pius X Catholic Church by Father Edward Richardson. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, Thursday and Friday from 6 to 7 p.m.
