A young girl was killed Tuesday when she fell from the car in which she was riding in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store on U.S. Route 17.
Amiee M. Busic died about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday while being airlifted to Norfolk from a hospital in Gloucester.
She was strangled by a seat belt and then run over by the left rear tire of the car, according to Tammy Van Dame of the Virginia State Police.
The girl's mother apparently had stopped the car, but it jolted forward when her foot slipped off the brake pedal. The girl fell through the open door when the car lurched forward, Van Dame said.
Van Dame said the death has been ruled accidental.
