Linebacker Tony Morrison's future at Virginia Tech is in limbo pending a decision that will be made by the university's student affairs department.
Morrison, a rising sophomore from Chesapeake's Indian River High School, was involved in an unspecified incident. A decision has been rendered about the incident and is under appeal. Director of university relations Larry Hincker would not say whether Morrison made the appeal.
``There is a review process under way right now that will in a very short order determine his future status,'' Hincker said, adding that the decision could be made within a couple weeks.
Morrison's father, Jim, would not provide details of the incident when reached at home Tuesday.
``We're in the process of dealing with it,'' Jim Morrison said. ``It's up to them when they finalize things. There are some legal implications. I don't want to talk about it at all.''
Morrison is expected to start for the Hokies at linebacker this fall. He was an all-state performer at Indian River and was regarded as one of Tech's prize recruiting catches in recent years.
Neither Morrison nor Hokies coach Frank Beamer could be reached for comment Tuesday.
Morrison was suspended for one game last fall for an unspecified violation of team rules. He played in 10 regular-season games and the Gator Bowl for the Hokies as a true freshman, including starts in the regular-season finale against Virginia and in the Gator Bowl.
Indian River football coach Bob Parker said Morrison has been working out at the school regularly and has not indicated a possibility he would not return to Tech this fall.
``I hadn't heard about that,'' Parker said. ``He's been in there working out like somebody who is going to play football. What you're telling me is a total surprise. This flabbergasts me.'' by CNB
