Bell Atlantic Corp. said it plans to construct cable-television networks in Hampton Roads and five other Mid-Atlantic markets that use more fiber-optic transmission lines. As a result, the regional Bell company said, it withdrew two requests at the Federal Communications Commission to offer video services using hybrid fiber-coaxial networks. The switch means a delay of six to nine months from Bell Atlantic's previous start-up, planned for mid-1996. The new network will enable it to install fiber-optics closer to customers' homes and transmit large amounts of data, voice messages and movies. (Staff) by CNB
