Joe Ladisic has been named head football coach at Wilson High School, a position he held in 1992 before the consolidation of Wilson and Manor high schools.
Ladisic, 34, served as an assistant coach to Darnell Moore at Wilson for 10 years and succeeded him when Moore became an assistant coach at Norfolk State.
Ladisic replaces Jenson Baker, who has joined Moore's Norfolk State staff. Baker, who was 4-16 in two years at the Presidents' helm, still teaches at Wilson and will coach girls basketball.
Ladisic, who was on the coaching staff when Wilson won state football championships in 1989 and 1991, has taught biology and other science classes at Wilson for 11 years. He has been Wilson's baseball coach for five years and will continue in that capacity.
``We're looking forward to great improvements in our football program under coach Ladisic,'' said Wilson athletic director Dave Willett. ``As an assistant coach, he played a part with teams that won four Southeastern District championships, two regional titles and two state championships.''
In 1992, Ladisic's team was 1-9.
``That's why I am so excited about getting another chance to prove myself,'' Ladisic said. ``We have a young team and I would like to turn things around.'' ILLUSTRATION: Photo
