CITY COUNCIL ACTION - PORTSMOUTH

The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Tuesday night: Northside Neighborhood: Rezoning application by the Portsmouth Elks Lodge for property at 300 Williamsburg Ave. from Office Residential OR-75 to Commercial C-2-K Conditional, deferred from public hearing meeting on May 8.

Approved, 7-0 Highlands Neighborhood: Resolution granting the request of Hasan Peynircioglu for a use permit to operate a flea market at 3126 Victory Boulevard.

Approved, 7-0 Ordinance to appropriate $1,150,000 from the Capital Improvements Fund for a three-bay fire station at Rivershore Road and Cedar Lane.

Approved, 5-2; Martin and Webb opposed Motion to award the contract for the fire station to Reliable Builders, Inc.

Approved, 5-2; Martin and Webb opposed Ordinance to appropriate $324,700 from the Capital Improvements Fund for the purchase of a new aerial Quint (ladder/pump combination).

Approved, 7-0 Motion to award the contract for the new aerial Quint to Fire-X Corporation of Norfolk.

Approved, 7-0 Ordinance to abolish the Transportation Safety Commission.

Approved, 7-0 Motion to transfer $135,520 from the Grants Contingency Account for the 1995 Summer Breakfast and Lunch Program as awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture.

Approved, 7-0 Motion to transfer $110,000 from the city's Emergency Contingency Account to pay for the cost of prisoner meals and medical services.
