Edward T. Vahey, 63, of the 5600 block of Susquehanna Drive, died May 25, 1995, in a local hospital.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Jan. 14, 1932. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Mr. Vahey retired in 1992 after 30 years of service as a NAESU engineer with NEOC, NWOC.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kelly Vahey; children, Bruce C. Vahey, Sharen R. Lane, Karen K. Benton, Mary C. Gruber, Andrew J. Heine, John J. Heine, Susan H. Sharp, Joyce A. Heine, Vincent R. Heine and Michael F. Heine; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Rene Eisenbraun and Jeannie Kenney of Ohio; one brother, Ray Vahey of New Jersey; brother-in-law, Jack Eisenbraun of Ohio; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary E. McCarthy and Edward T. Vahey Sr.; wife, Charlene Darst Vahey; and nephew, Lawrence Eisenbraun.
A funeral Mass will be conducted on Saturday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Norfolk, by Father Joseph P. Lehman. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Friends may join the family at Smith & Wiliams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, Friday evening, May 26, from 7 to 8 p.m. A Christian wake service will begin at 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church Building Fund, 1803 Columbia Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23509. The family will be at the residence at other times.
