Sister Geraldine Gresser, D.W., 79, died May 25, 1995, at Our Lady of Hope Convent in Sound Beach, N.Y.
Sister Geraldine, a member of the Congregation of the Daughters of Wisdom, was born in Hollis, N.Y., in 1916. She was the daughter of the late Judge Lawrence Gresser and Mrs. Ann Gresser, and is survived by one brother, Charles Gresser of Cooper City, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sister Geraldine was one of the first five Sisters who founded Maryview Hospital and the School of Nursing in 1944 and remained there until 1964 when she returned to New York. She spent several years of retirement in Portsmouth, Va., before going back to New York.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Sound Beach Chapel, N.Y., Saturday, May 27, at 10:30 a.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection, Portsmouth, at a future date. Donations may be made to Martha Davis Cancer Center, 3636 High St., Portsmouth, Va. 23707. Foster Funeral Home provided local information.
