Craven County Commissioner Gerald Parker denied in U.S. District Court Thursday that drug deals ever took place at his home.
Three witnesses testified Tuesday and Wednesday in the Elizabeth City courtroom that they were involved in or witnessed two drug deals in August 1993 at Parker's residence in New Bern, and placed Parker in the same room where the second deal took place.
Parker, 33, is charged with conspiracy and two counts of maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance. Another charge was dropped Wednesday because of inaccuracies in the indictment.
Parker testified Thursday that he knew of no drug activities in his home.
Parker, a Democrat, was sworn in Dec. 5 as a new county commissioner.
