Smithfield Cos. Inc., a Portsmouth-based food-products maker, said net income for its fiscal fourth quarter ended March 31 rose to $235,454, or 16 cents a share, from $96,021, or 6 cents a share, for the same period last year. Sales rose 9 percent to $8.8 million in the latest period. The results brought Smithfield's net income for the full fiscal year to $1.39 million, or 94 cents a share, up 48 percent from earnings of $938,648 the previous year.
