A state prisoner has pleaded guilty to threatening to kill U.S. District Judge Robert G. Doumar.
In March, Sinclair L. Atkins Jr. was charged with five counts of threatening a federal official, threatening by means of an explosive and sending threats through the mail.
Atkins, who is in Mecklenberg Correctional Center in Boydton, pleaded guilty Thursday to two of the counts. The other three were dropped, as part of a plea agreement.
Atkins will be sentenced July 16.
It is the second time Atkins has been charged with threatening Doumar, court records show. Five years ago, Atkins was convicted of threatening Doumar through the mail and was sentenced to five years in prison.
He had filed charges against corrections officials and Doumar dismissed the charges. by CNB
