The death of a 23-year-old man on Thursday has led police to upgrade a charge against a 22-year-old man from malicious wounding to murder.
Kelly J. Jackson of 611 Henderson St. died a 7:21 p.m. Thursday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Jackson had been in the hospital since he was shot repeatedly May 21 outside a residence at 914 Tazewell St.
Police previously had charged Antwan R. Jenkins of 1608 Spectator St. with the shooting. Jenkins also had been charged with a weapons violation.
Police believe that Jenkins and another man approached Jackson on the night of the shooting and fired a handgun five times. Jackson later identified Jenkins as the man who had shot him. Jenkins was arrested Friday at 9 a.m.
