ARCHITECTURAL
Michael V. Padden was named an associate with the firm of Clark, Nexsen, Owen, Barbieri, Gibson in Norfolk. Padden was a principal with The Design Collaborative in Virginia Beach.
BANKING
John A. Tilhou, a partner with the law firm of Pender & Coward, was elected chairman of the board of Princess Anne Bank in Virginia Beach. He has served on the bank's board since 1992.
Tilhou succeeds Homer Cunningham, founding chairman of the bank, who was named chairman emeritus.
Kerry Liberman was appointed director of human resources with Atlantic Fleet Federal Credit Union in Norfolk. Liberman was a human resources consultant with Wilson Learning Corp. in Florida.
ENGINEERING
The engineering firm of William C. Overman Associates in Virginia Beach elected John W. Warwick president and chairman of its board.
HEALTH CARE
Dr. Jeffrey S. Hembree has joined Dr. Charles L. O'Dea on Market Street in Suffolk for the practice of chiropractic. Hembree was in private practice on Lynn Shores Drive in Virginia Beach. He specializes in spinal injuries and spinal rehabilitation.
LAW
Sylvia Rose was appointed an associate with the firm of Jones, Blechman, Woltz and Kelly in Newport News. Rose was the in-house counsel with Hampton University, and also served as corporate secretary to the university's board of trustees. She previously was a financial analyst with IBM.
Jerry L. Bowman was named a member of the Chesapeake firm of Faggert & Frieden.
He will practice in the areas of taxation and estate law. Bowman was a partner in the Norfolk firm of McGuire, Woods, Battle & Boothe.
MUNICIPAL
Sally Reed was named director of libraries for the city of Norfolk. Reed has held director positions with public libraries in Middlebury, Vt., and North Hampton, N.H.
She holds a master's degree in library science.
MUSEUM
Susan Bak was named director of marketing and retail operations with the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation in Williamsburg. She will also oversee museum gift shop and food concession operations which are administered by the Jamestown-Yorktown Educational Trust.
Bak was the director of marketing with the Norfolk Convention & Visitors Bureau, and has served as its acting executive director for the past year.
She will begin her position with the foundation in July.
John Freeman was named manager of gift shops at the Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center in Williamsburg. He will also be the liaison for food service contracts at the museums.
Freeman previously was director of the bookstore at the College of William and Mary.
ORGANIZATIONS
Marion V. Swaim was elected president of the Virginia Health Information Management Association. Swaim is corporate director of health information management with Tidewater Health Care Inc.
Jane S. Maher was elected president of the Virginia Federation of Business and Professional Woman's Clubs Inc. Maher is district manager of the bankruptcy control department with American General Finance.
The Institute of Internal Auditors, Tidewater chapter, elected Douglas E. Ziegenfuss president. Ziegenfuss is with Old Dominion University.
Sugar Plum Bakery, a non-profit community organization in Virginia Beach, elected Robert L. Dewey president. Dewey is with the Norfolk law firm of Willcox & Savage.
MID-ATLANTIC
Jeffrey D. Doxey was named a vice president with Goodman Segar Hogan in Richmond. He will specialize in retail properties and assist clients with leasing, sales and site selection. Doxey was a retail specialist with Harrison & Bates in Richmond.
Media General, based in Richmond, re-elected nine directors to one-year terms on the company's board.
Re-elected as Class A directors were Charles A. Davis, Robert V. Hatcher Jr. and John G. Medlin Jr. Re-elected as Class B directors were Robert P. Black, D. Tennant Bryan, J. Stewart Bryan III, Alan S. Donnahoe, James S. Evans and Henry L. Valentine, II.
Owens & Minor Inc. in Richmond promoted Wayne Luck to vice president of information technology, a newly created position. He will be responsible for all technology initiatives, including Owens & Minor's move to a client/server computer system.
Previously, Luck was director of information technology. He joined the company in 1992 after 20 years with Best Products.
Owens & Minor is a national wholesale distributor of medical and surgical supplies, pharmaceutical and other related products to hospitals, alternate care facilities, and integrated health-care systems.
