HONORS, AWARDS

William J. Ruehlmann, an associate professor of communications at Virginia Wesleyan College, received the Samuel Nelson Gary distinguished teaching award. Ruehlman, a former reporter with The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star, joined the college in 1993.

RELOCATIONS

TFC Enterprises Inc. has relocated its executive offices and Mid-Atlantic Regional Service Center from The Riverside Corporate Center to offices consisting of 27,000 square feet in The Norfolk Commerce Park. TFC Enterprises Inc., through its wholly-owned subsidiary, The Finance Company, specializes in purchasing and servicing installment sales contracts originated by automobile and motorcycle dealers.

Bankruptcies filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk:

Raymond B. Sims Jr. and Dorothy T. Sims, initially trading as Virginia Beach Bearing & Supply, filed Chapter 7 liquidation on May 19, with assets of $147,700 and liabilities of $232,852.

Arnold Byron Crews, attorney, filed Chapter 7 liquidation on May 19, with assets of $25,029 and liabilities of $88,469.

Dr. Sylvia B. Laremont, trading as Maternal & Family Medicine Center, filed Chapter 11 reorganization on May 22, with assets of $68,206.77 and liabilities of $145,376,91. And, Dr. Benjamin Laremont, trading as Maternal & Family Medicine Center, filed Chapter 11 reorganization on May 22, with assets of $43,387 and liabilities of $100,606.08.

Selfridge & Selfridge Ltd., law firm, filed Chapter 11 reorganization on May 22, with assets of $373,200 and liabilities of $60,000.

Sierra International Inc., sales of industrial equipment, filed Chapter 7 liquidation on May 23. Assets and liabilities were not available.

CITY CONTRACTS

Atarus Medical Temporaries Inc. in Virginia Beach received a $500,000 contract from the city of Virginia Beach in February for temporary services support to the Community Services Board program for the period of March 1, 1995, through Feb. 28, 1996.

MID-ATLANTIC

Owens & Minor Inc. was selected as one of the medical/surgical supply distributors for five Veterans Administration medical center clusters encompassing 37 medical centers in 12 states with potential annual sales of $23.3 million.

These five cluster awards, each lasting three years, are the first of 25 cluster selections by the Veterans Administration National Acquisition Center in Hines, Ill. The VA selects several distributors for each cluster, and the distributors compete for primary and secondary distributor contracts with each medical center in the cluster.
