MARY B. COLEMAN

Mary Boykin ``Miss Mary'' Coleman, 73, of the 2700 block of Victoria Ave., died May 26, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mrs. Coleman was born in Norfolk. She had retired from Coleman's Cleaners as a manager after 10 years. She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church and served on the Deaconess Board, Susie Hawkins Floral Club, Missionary Circle, Food Committee and was a former member of the Pulpit Committee. She was past matron of Margaret Francis Chapter 101, Order of the Eastern Star, P.H.A., past Ancient Matron of Cohersion Court 3, Heroines of Jericho, past Loyal Lady Ruler of John W. Barnes Assembly 8, Order of the Golden Circle, Royal Martha Electa Royal Court 2, Order of Cyrene P.H.A. Arabia Court 23, Daughters of Isis, Daughters of Norfolk and Class of 1942, Booker T. Washington High School. Mrs. Coleman worked diligently and received many awards and honors for her years of service in these orders.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Robert Lee Coleman; a daughter, Myrna C. Jones of Fort Washington, Md.; a son, Dr. Robert B. Coleman of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Melvin B. Boykin and Samuel L. Boykin, both of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Michael A. Jones and James Robert Knight of Fort Washington, Md.; three godchildren, Andrew Jones of Norfolk, Renee Jones of Washington, D.C. and Toni Gee of Temple Hill, Md.; three sisters-in-law, Ruth C. Bellamy, Edna Boykin and Elizabeth C. Pharr, all of Norfolk; one brother-in-law, James A. Pharr of Norfolk; 10 nephews; 30 nieces; and a host of grand nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in New Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Gilbert G. Campbell Jr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. E.A. Hughes Funeral Home in charge. A wake will be held Monday, May 29, at Macedonia Holiness Church, 7518 Merritt St., Norfolk, from 7 to 9 p.m. Family will receive visitors and friends after the interment at New Calvary Baptist Church.
