CARLTON R. TWIFORD

Carlton Ray Twiford, 67, of the 3200 block of Lark St., died May 27, 1995, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

Mr. Twiford was born in Norfolk. He had retired from the U.S. Army as a Command Sergeant Major of Fort Story, Va., after 26 years. He had also retired from the Juvenile Courts of Virginia Beach and also retired as a sergeant of the Norfolk Naval Base Police Department. He was a Catholic and was a member of the Father Nicholas J. Habets Council 4632, Knights of Columbus, where he was a Third and Fourth Degree Knight. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Sewells Point Lodge 28 and a member of Norfolk V.F.W. Post. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit and was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was also a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Senior Parachutist Badge and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Twiford; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois Ann Twiford-Hardy and Robert W. Hardy of Chesapeake; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry R. and Michele Twiford of Virginia Beach and Carl G. and Katri Twiford of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Sadie Davis of Chesapeake and Sally Gaylor of Norfolk; seven grandchildren, Michael, Carlton, Heather, Mary Beth, Audrey, Charlotte and Matthew; and a special nephew, Lester D. Twiford, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel. Burial with full military honors will be accorded at the graveside in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
