James Ralph Smith Jr., 51, a civil service equipment specialist, died May 27, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mr. Smith was born in Norfolk and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council (NU)3548. He was a beloved husband and a devoted father.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Mary Smith; four daughters, Valerie E. Olsen of Williston, S.C., Theresa R. Smith of Danville, Va., Sara Anne Smith and Mary Elizabeth Smith, both of Norfolk; two sons, Russell A. Smith and Michael T. Smith, both of Norfolk; five sisters, Elizabeth Bunch, Alice S. Vavadelis, Rebecca S. Sykes, and Doris S. Carpenter, all of Virginia Beach, and Linda S. Upton of Ellicott City, Md.; two brothers, Robert N. Smith of Virginia Beach and R. William Smith of Norfolk; two granddaughters, Sara E. Olsen and Taylor R. Hayden. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard T. Gillette.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church by the Rev. Lou Ruoff. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity School. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
