A Yorktown man was killed and another seriously injured Sunday afternoon when they were hit by a van, state police spokeswoman Tammy Van Dame reported Monday.
Ernest Louden, 45, and Steven Coles, 38, were riding trail bikes on Route 17 South near the intersection of Route 1205 at 5:10 p.m. when they were hit by a 1994 Chevrolet van, Van Dame said.
Louden was transported by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he died. Coles, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News and was listed in critical condition Monday.
The driver of the van, 28-year-old Margaret West of Gloucester, was charged with reckless driving, Van Dame said.
