Gladys Sadler Hathaway, 84, of the 500 block of Maryland Ave., died May 30, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.
She was a native of Zuni, Va., and was the widow of Joseph Carson Hathaway. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, and was active in the youth program. She was a former salesperson at Smith and Welton, member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Tidal Wave Chapter (NU)9, and was involved in several communty actvities. She was predeceased by her daughter, Gladys Antionett Hathaway.
She is survived by five sons, Joseph C. Hathaway Jr. of Portsmouth, Grover Lee Hathaway and Thomas R. Hathaway, both of Chesapeake, Robert Edward Hathaway of New Jersey, and John S. Hathaway of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. Kathryn L. Pigg and the Rev. William E. Kube. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to make contributions may send donations to the youth ministry of Broad Street United Methodist Church.
