A Norfolk man who was seriously injured in a single-car accident near Coinjock, N.C., on May 20 has died at a hospital, police reported Tuesday.
Samuel F. Esleeck, 23, of the 2400 block of Hemlock St., was traveling north on U.S. Route 158 when he apparently lost control of his 1990 Mitsubishi and ran onto the east shoulder of the road, police said.
The vehicle crossed a driveway, dropped into a shallow ditch and then struck a culvert. The car then became airborne and landed about 39 feet from the collision point, police said.
Esleeck was taken to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died on Saturday.
Police said he was not wearing a seat belt when he crashed.
