A 31-year-old woman has reported she was raped while walking home on the 1000 block of Wall St. with her 2-year-old daughter, police said Tuesday.
At about 11:15 a.m. Friday, a man approached them and forced the woman to a grassy area and began sexually assaulting her, said Larry Hill, a police spokesman.
The daughter ran away and was found by David Peterson, a Norfolk city employee, who called police.
When officers S.E. Nellum and S.J. Tanchak found the child's mother behind a building, she yelled that she had been raped. Tanchak chased the man and arrested him, Hill said.
Willie Price, 40, of the 800 block of C Ave. was charged with rape and abduction, police said.
The woman was treated and released at a hospital, Hill said.
