FRANCES C. HAWKS

Frances Conwell Hawks, 86, formerly of Portsmouth, died May 31, 1995, at her residence in Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Hawks was the widow of Richard Edward Hawks of Portsmouth and daughter of the late William Wilson and Elizabeth Magee Conwell. She was born in Milton, Del., and moved to Norfolk at an early age.

She was a member of Monumental United Methodist Church; past president of the Elizabeth River Garden Club; and a member of the Fort Nelson Chapter of the D.A.R.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie Hawks Wentz Broecker of Virginia Beach and Mary Welton Hawks Schlemmer of Harrison, Idaho; a brother, David Miers Conwell of Fairhope, Ala.; six grandchildren, Ashley Wentz Harrell of Chesapeake, Robert William Wentz III of Portsmouth, Richard Edward Hawks Wentz of Suffolk, David Michael Schlemmer of Jackson, Calif., Robert Milton Schlemmer Jr. of Seattle, Wash., Lt. William Edward Schlemmer, USNR of Pensacola, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren, Todd Anthony Harrell, Robert William Wentz IV and Richard Carrington Wentz.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, in Monumental United Methodist Church by the Rev. Raymond H. Edmonds. Burial will be private. Foster Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family will be at 1253 North Bay Shore Drive, Virginia Beach.
